First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Holy Communion 2008/2009

Any child in year 3 of Junior School or older is eligible to enroll in the parish First Reconciliation and Communion Programmes provided at least one parent is a baptised Catholic attending Sunday Mass regularly at this church.

The Programmes followed this year are: Loved and Forgiven to prepare for First Reconciliation, and Meet Christ with Joy to prepare for First Holy Communion.

From October to January the classes follow the themes of Welcoming, Belonging, Myself, Baptism, Listening, Caring, Forgiving and Making Peace.  Key scripture stories are: the Lost Sheep, the Prodigal Son and Zacchaeus.  This leads into the immediate preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

From February to May, the course focuses more directly upon the Eucharist, covering also the themes of Prayer, God’s Word, Gifts, Celebration and Remembering.  Key scripture stories are: the Loaves and Fishes, the Good Samaritan, the Passover and the Last Supper.

Special celebration Masses, in which the children take an active part, take place at 11am on Sundays throughout the Programmes.

Parents should be involved as fully as possible in the children’s preparation for these sacraments.  Each Group session is supported by a Home session and an adult formation programme is followed during the Parents’ meetings.
