The Eternal City
A pilgrimage to Rome is a very special journey for all pilgrims. This is the city that Christians from all over the globe travel to on pilgrimage. Even St Paul wrote, “I must go and see Rome.” Rome has many wondrous sights to take in and worship at, including St Peter’s Basilica, Basilicas of St John in Lateran and St Paul outside the Walls, or the well-hidden Vatican Gardens
Itinerary:
Day 1 We fly to Rome, where we are met by a representative. To start our pilgrimage we visit the Basilica of St Paul’s Outside the Walls (for an hour’s visit) on the transfer from the airport to the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel we check in and enjoy some free time (depending on flight time). Evening dinner and overnight in Rome.

After a break for lunch, we then visit the nearby Basilica of St John Lateran. We then take our final visit of the day to the Basilica of St Mary Major. Evening dinner and overnight in Rome.
Day 3 After breakfast we may be transported by bus (depending on the location of our accommodation) to attend the Papal General Audience* in St Peter’s Square (if the Pope is in Rome). The afternoon is free to relax, to explore or to do some shopping in the local area. Evening dinner and overnight in Rome.
Day 4 After breakfast, we are met by a courier and maybe transported by bus (depending on location of accommodation) for a guided visit of the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Gardens**. Sights to see
The Trevi Fountain
Without doubt the most famous fountain in Rome. Pietro da Cortona and above all Bernini, who began the undertaking, both had a hand in the project. The death of Pope Urban VIII brought work to a standstill and it was not until about a hundred years later that Clement XII entrusted the work to Nicola Salvi, who finished the undertaking between 1732 and 1751.
St Peter's Square - the Vatican, Rome
The Obelisk in St. Peter’s Square was quarried at Aswan in the reign of Nebkaure Amenemhet II (B.C. 19th Century), and erected at the pylon of the Temple of the Sun in Heliopolis. In A.D. 37, the then Roman Emperor Caligula transported it to Rome, and erected it in the Caligula Circus or the Vatican Circus. Then Pope Sixtus V [reigned 1585-1590] directed the obelisk to be re-erected at the center of the colonnaded square, so-called St. Peter's Square in 1586, in front of the "new" Basilica of St. Peter, which was under construction at that time. It still remains here today.
